A three-time former lawmaker was murdered and his son critically injured over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday. The former legislator Nirvendra Kumar Mishra was attacked by a few local men near the Trikolia Padhua bus station when he and his son tried to resist a land grabbing attempt. Mishra's family members said that the men came with weapons to grab the land and alleged that UP police are in cahoots with the alleged murderers. Mishra’s son is in a critical condition at a hospital. The land dispute matter is reportedly also in court. The 75-year-old politician had won twice as an independent candidate and once on a Samajwadi Party ticket.
