A decade after the historic India-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed, India now stares a billions of dollars lost in infrastructure investment in the region as the Taliban take control.
In fact the symbolic message of the partnership was inauguration of Afghanistan's Parliament building in Kabul in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Afghan parliament was built by India and cost $90 million.
The parliament isn't the only investment with a historical or political significance. In 2016, PM Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the restored Stor palace in Kabul. The Stor Palace is where the historic 1919 Rawalpindi Agreement was signed, an agreement through which Afghanistan gained its independence.

India has invested over $3 billion in several infrastructure and trade projects in Afghanistan. It has also undertaken over 400 projects across all 34 Afghanistan provinces.
