Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi started her 2-day visit to Lucknow for 2022 UP poll preparation with a silent protest against the Yogi government before a Mahatma Gandhi statue in Lucknow on Friday.

Priyanka dodged questions about Congress’ Chief Ministerial candidate for the polls. She also refused to confirm whether she will contest elections.

Congress’ UP-in charge is on a visit to do the spadework for the Assembly elections in the state next year. She has held several meetings with party functionaries and leaders. She will meet former MPs, ex-MLAs, heads of frontal organisations, departments, members of zila panchayats and block heads.

She also met two Samajwadi Party workers who were allegedly attacked by BJP activists during the panchayat polls. Calling it a ‘fight for democracy’, the Congress General Secretary has demanded that the election held be cancelled and at all those places where there were incidents of violence, re-polling be held.
