Xiaomi takes second spot in global smartphone shipments: IDC

Xiaomi has taken the second spot in global smartphone shipments in Q2 2021, according to the latest report from IDC.

Xiaomi reportedly nudged past Apple with 53.1 million units shipped in Q2, a year-over-year increase of 86.6%.

The Chinese tech giant secured 16.9% market share, second only to Samsung, which saw 59 million units shipped in Q2, and a market share of 18.8%.

While Apple was relegated to the third spot with 14.1% market share, Oppo and Vivo took the fourth and fifth positions with 10.5% and 10.1% market share respectively.

IDC's report also indicated an uptick in overall shipment volumes year over year, with 13.2% growth thanks to a total 313.2 million devices beign shipped in Q2 2021.
