With over Rs 50,000 cr earmarked to the Jal Mission, there is big business opportunity for India Inc to tap into as the Govt pushes ahead it's pet water campaign. The scope of work under the mission includes creation of in-village supply infrastructure for tap water connection, reliable drinking water source development, retrofitting of complete and ongoing piped water supply schemes.
Budgetary allocation for FY’22 for the water mission is at Rs 50,000 cr this is a big jump from the Rs 11,500 cr in FY’21. The govt has already released Rs 6000 cr to 15 states, this is however just the first of four tranches. The states will also match this contribution to push ahead with the aim to get tap water to all homes across the nation.
In just over a year 40.8mn rural households have been provided with new tap water connections. This is opening a big business opportunity for businesses, especially in the pipe business. The leader in the pack Supreme Industry has seen it stock soaring over 180% from it's pandemic low as the Jal Mission with the motto "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal by 2024" is improving earnings outlook significantly.
