A six-month-old Dexel lamb has been named the world's most expensive sheep after being sold at auction for almost 368,000 pounds (or nearly 3.6 crores) in Scotland.

Bidding for the lamb, named Double Diamond, started at just 10,000 pounds but escalation of the bidding war at the Scottish National Texel Sale shot up the price, breaking the previous record of £230,000 set in 2009.

The heavily muscled sheep is native to the island of Texel in the Netherlands.

According to the Guardian, the buyers, who hope to recoup their investment through breeding, said the 'outstanding animal' was backed up by all the 'best genetics.'
