Protesters interrupted China's Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian during his speech in Sydney on Friday.

Xiao was just starting an address to the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS:ACRI) on the state of relations between Australia and China when protesters got up with "Free Tibet" and "Hong Kong Independence" signs.

The two protesters were whisked away by security before another protester with a hat and flag also left while shouting "What a disgrace. How about freedom of speech in China?"

Xiao then resumed his speech saying that " I think it's a good opportunity that we have different views, but they should be expressed in a way that is appropriate."

He has been in office in Australia since January this year.
