Russian aircraft bombed cities in eastern and central Ukraine overnight, Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday. Shelling pounded suburbs of the capital, Kyiv.
In Sumy and Okhtyrka, to the east of Kyiv near the Russian border, bombs fell on residential buildings and destroyed a power plant, regional officials said.
Russian forces have so far destroyed 202 schools, 34 hospitals, and over 1,500 residential buildings in Ukraine, reports said. As many as 900 settlements are without electricity, water & heat.
Russia claimed that it has been targeting military establishments, a claim contested by Ukraine that has accused Moscow of shelling residential areas.
The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine has deepened as Russian invasion entered 13th day. Food, water, heat and medicine grew increasingly scarce, in what Ukraine condemned as a medieval-style siege by Moscow to batter it into submission.
