For the first time in the history of America, former US president Donald Trump has been indicted on charges of mishandling hundreds of classified documents, including those about the country’s nuclear secrets and military plans after leaving the White House in 2021.
Trump faces criminal charges by the federal US government he once oversaw.
Indicted on 37 counts, Trump, who is running for president again in 2024, is accused of keeping about 300 classified files at his Florida estate.
The indictment alleges that Trump tried to obstruct the probe into the handling of the documents after they were found in his estate.
Trump faces the possibility of prison if convicted.
