The health ministry of Thailand has sought the cabinet's approval for a draft bill that seeks to ban the recreational use of marijuana. The turnaround comes after more than a year of Thailand becaming the first Asian country to decriminalise weed.

Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew informed that the bill is about to be proposed at the next week's meeting of the cabinet.

Srikaew said, "The new bill will be amended from the existing one to only allow the use of cannabis for health and medicinal purposes." He further added, "use for fun is considered wrong."

After coming to power in August 2023, Thailand PM Srettha Thavisin has batted against the recreational use of marijuana and said that the drug should only be used for medicinal purposes.
