Russian artist who criticised Putin in his songs dies by falling through the ice

A Russian musician who criticised President Vladimir Putin in his songs died after falling through the ice while crossing a river, as per a report by NDTV.

35-year-old Dima Nova, whose real name was Dmitry Svirgunov, founded the popular electronic group Cream Soda. Nova's songs which were critical of Putin were often used as anthems during anti-war demonstrations, the report added. 

The group took to Instagram to share the news about Nova's death while also sharing his picture.

The band rose to popularity in 2021 when one of their songs aimed at Putin's luxurious mansion went viral.
