The Russian Defense Ministry shared footage on Monday showing Russian military Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov listening to a report on the destruction of four Ukrainian ballistic targets.
The accompanying text said "the Kyiv regime made an unsuccessful attempt to strike targets in Crimea, Rostov, and Kaluga regions with S-200 anti-aircraft missiles, in order to destroy ground targets" on 9 July.
Among the objects that Ukraine tried to attack were the Crimea bridge and a military airfield in the Rostov region, according to the Chief of the General Staff of the Aerospace Forces Colonel-General Viktor Afzalov.
The video shows Valery Gerasimov for the first time since the abortive mutiny of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
During the Wagner group's revolt that lasted less than 24 hours, Prigozhin’s mercenaries quickly swept through the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and captured the military headquarters there without firing a shot before driving to within about 200 kilometres (125 miles) of the Russian capital.
Prigozhin described it as a “march of justice” to oust his longtime foes — Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu and Gerasimov, whose handling of the military campaign in Ukraine he has criticised.
