Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sparked a fresh controversy with his choice for a high-profile diplomatic post.

Netanyahu nominated May Golan as New York consul general.

She had reportedly once said that she is "proud to be racist" if it means defending her country.

Golan has in the past reportedly referred to African refugees in Israel as "Muslim infiltrators", criminals, and rapists, who are spreading Aids.
