Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recently met at the Blair House in Washington. Accompanied by his partner Shivon Zilis and his three children, Musk presented PM Modi with a unique gift—a heatshield tile from SpaceX's Starship, used in a significant test flight on October 13, 2024.

This tile, from the Starship Flight Test 5, is designed to withstand the extreme heat of atmospheric re-entry and marks a notable achievement in aerospace engineering, given the mission's successful booster recovery in South Texas.

In exchange, Prime Minister Modi gifted Musk's children with three classic Indian books: "The Crescent Moon" by Rabindranath Tagore, "The Great RK Narayan Collection," and "Panchatantra" by Pandit Vishnu Sharma. Photographs shared by the Prime Minister depicted the children enjoying these literary works.

Following the meeting, PM Modi took to social media platform X to express his satisfaction. "Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues including space, mobility, technology, and innovation.

I talked about India's efforts towards reform and furthering 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,'" he stated. He added that meeting Musk's family and engaging in a broad-ranging discussion was a pleasure.

The discussion between Modi and Musk covered important themes concerning space exploration, technological advancements, and innovation. This meeting marks the continuation of a dialogue that began in 2015 when PM Modi visited Tesla’s facility in San Jose and was personally shown around by Musk.
