On camera: US police officer slams student into lunch table, probe launched

A group of police officers in the United States are facing investigation after a video showing one of them slamming a student onto a lunch table surfaced.  The incident occurred Wednesay in a school in Irving, Texas. 

A Facebook user posted the clip, captioning it, 'Smh, this is how these cops are doing these kids now in days'. The clip shows a scuffle underway between students as the police intervenes. One of the officers then proceeds to grab the collar of a boy and slam him onto a metal table. 

The boy gets back up however the officer who had left the frame returns and pushes the boy down. 

The reason for the scuffle is unknown other than that the students started fighting in the school's lunch line and the assigned officers intervened. 

A statement from the Irving police department says, 'The Irving officers used force to separate the students.'

 'The Irving Police Department reviews every use of force to ensure policies and procedures are appropriately applied," the press note read. "We have seen video clips from this fight shared on social media and an internal investigation has begun,' it added. 

Further, the cops informed that the officer who pushed the student has been reassigned while the investigation is ongoing. On the other hand, the students involved in the fight are being referred for a class C misdemeanour of fighting in public, NBC News reported. 

As part of the investigation, the police are also speaking to the Irving School District as well as a family member of the boy who was pushed.
