Chaos ensued on the streets of Cardiff in the United Kingdom as youth clashed with police after a serious crash.

In visuals that were live-streamed on YouTube, groups of young men can be seen setting cars on fire, throwing fireworks at riot police and charging at officers on the streets.

The Daily Mail reported that the flames from the fires reached up to 15ft high in the air and the police pressed in a helicopter to bring the riots under control.

Videos on social media showed a crowd of people gathered around a fire on a road, while riot police faced the mob in an attempt to control a “large scale disorder”.

Wales Online reported the youths were gathering items of rubbish and furniture, including chairs and sofas, to add to a fire in the middle of the road.

Reportedly, the riots were triggered by a road accident with unverified social media posts claiming that the collision had been caused by a police chase.

Police urged people “not to speculate” online, and said the crash had already happened before officers arrived.
