Amid concerns of Chinese retaliation to US Speaker Nancy Pelosi's expected visit, Taiwan has conducted military drills in its capital city.

Air raid sirens were sounded in Taipei as part of joint air and sea exercises. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je in a presser asserted that the island nation needs to be prepared if there is war.

The situation has worsened after China said it will act if Pelosi visits Taiwan and its actions are aimed at preventing other nations- mainly US from interfering in Taiwan's matters & advocating its independence.

The latest Chinese threats and Taiwan's defence move suggest the possibility of a renewed crisis in Taiwan Strait

China considers self-ruling Taiwan as its own territory and has time and again received global criticism for its forced tactics in the region. Taiwan, on the other hand, dismisses Chinese sovereignty claim vowing to defend its territory.
