A section of a large industrial tunnel currently under construction in Los Angeles collapsed on Wednesday, potentially trapping up to 31 workers, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The workers were located as far as 9.6 kilometers away from the tunnel's sole entrance, the department reported.
By around 9 pm, aerial footage broadcasted by local television stations showed workers exiting the tunnel. Brian Humphrey, representative of LAFD, stated that he was unable to immediately verify if the isolated workers had been rescued.
Over 100 LAFD personnel were deployed to the location, including specialists trained in confined space rescues.
