International terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) announced on 30 November 2022 that its chief Abu Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi has died.
The jihadist group did not specify how or when Abu Hasan died, while saying that he was killed "in combat with the enemies of God".
An ISIS spokesperson said that the group will now be led by Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi. Without providing many details of the new terrorist-in-chief, ISIS' spokesman said that Abu al-Hussein was a "veteran" jihadist, and asked all groups loyal to ISIS to pledge their allegiance to him.
Abu Hasan's predecessor Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi was eliminated in February 2022 in a US raid in Syria's Idlib. His predecessor Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in the same region in October 2019.
