Internet users in China were a tad bit befuddled after noticing that Israel was unnamed in online maps provided by websites like Baidu and Alibaba.

The Wall Street Journal reported that while maps showed Israel's territorial boundaries, Palestinian areas and cities but they did not mention the country by name.

The report added that the maps named even a small country like Luxembourg but Israel was unnamed.

The report has now started a global social media discussion amid Israel's war with Hamas.

China is known to be very particular about maps and even imposed punishment on organisations and people for not adhering to maps prescribed by Beijing.
