The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Saturday announced 'Operation Al-Aqsa Flood' against Israel, as it carried out an 'unprecedented infiltration' into south Israel.
In a rare public statement, the elusive leader of Hamas' military wing Mohammed Deif said that 5,000 rockets had been fired into Israel early Saturday to launch the military operation.
Israel has confirmed the rocket attack, and the country's army in a statement said it is prepared to counterattack.
