A pro-Palestinian protest by students of Emory University in the United States' Georgia was allegedly met with fierce police action.
Police are said to have used rubber bullets and teargas against the protesting students who had set up multiple tents on the campus’s lawns in solidarity with Palestine and against the university’s ties to Israel.
In a statement, the student organisers said they stood against the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of US imperialism.
They accused the university of being uniquely “complicit in genocide".
Signs reading “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” and “Divest from death” were put up on the campus.
Student protests over the Israel-Hamas war have popped up on an increasing number of college campuses following last week’s arrest of more than 100 demonstrators at Columbia University.
The students are calling for universities to separate themselves from any companies that are advancing Israel’s military efforts in Gaza — and in some cases from Israel itself.
