First Indian-Origin Israeli Soldier Killed In Combat In Gaza | 300 Indian Jews On IDF Duty

First Indian-origin Israeli soldier killed in combat in Gaza on Nov 12. Staff Sergeant Gary Zolat, 3 other IDF soldiers were killed during the North Gaza operation. Hamas fighters had hit Zolat's Army unit with homemade anti-tank shell.

IDF has launched a probe into the incident that led to killing of 4 soldiers. Zolat was serving in IDF's Kfir Brigade's 92nd Battalion in the Gaza war.  Zolat was about to complete his compulsory military service when he got killed. Zolat native of Mizoram, 2nd Indian-origin soldier killed since Oct 7, 2023. Indian-origin Staff Sergeant Geri Gideon Hanghal died in West Bank on Sep 12. A truck driver rammed into Hanghal stationed at a West Bank guard post. Hanghal was serving in IDF's Kfir Brigade's Nahshon Battalion when killed. 300 Bnei Menashe personnel currently serving in Israel.

Army, mostly in combat units. Bnei Menashe a community of Indian Jews mostly from Manipur & Mizoram. Jews of Tibeto-Burmese ethnic groups are said to have descended from Israelite tribes. Bnei Menashe, one of the 10 lost tribes of Israel, was exiled during king of Assyria's rule.
