An AI robot developed by Saudi Arabia stoked a controversy after it inappropriately touched a female reporter. Social media users accused the robot of harassing the woman and coded the cyborg as a creep.

The country’s first humanoid AI robot was part of a national project to demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.

The incident was filmed on March 4, when it made its first public appearance at the DeepFest in Saudi Arabia’s capital city. “I am Muhammad, the first Saudi robot in the form of a man. “I was manufactured and developed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a national project,” it said at the event.

The now-viral video also shows a female counterpart of Muhammad. Website of robot developers QSS Systems said it is named Sara.

“Standing as a testament to the nation’s commitment to technological advancement, Sara is designed to push the boundaries of robotics and artificial intelligence,” the website said.
