With China becoming the centre of global attention due to its severe Covid outbreak, a report claims that the country is possibly seeing around 10 lakh cases and 5,000 deaths every day.

Beijing officially reported 2,966 new cases on 21 December 2022.

Daily infections may rise as high as 37 lakh, claims Airfinity, a London-based research firm. But this is not the highest daily infection rate that China may see. The company has predicted a worse wave in March that could lead to around 42 lakh infections every day.

China is experiencing a big surge in infections after lifting restrictions under its stringent zero-Covid policy. Experts say that China's indigenous subpar vaccines have also contributed to lower immunity against the disease among Chinese citizens.
