China, with backing from Russia, has expressed objections to the US hosting the G20 in 2026, as previously announced by President Joe Biden's administration, NDTV reported citing people aware of the matter.

As per the news outlet, while this objection challenges the rotational tradition of G20 presidency, it is still symbolic and unlikely to be reversed. However, it has created discussions among G20 members.

The objection was made during private discussions on the sidelines of the ongoing G20 summit in India, NDTV said citing the sources, adding that Beijing asked for its displeasure to be officially recorded, but the exact reasons for China's objections have not been disclosed.
