A day after 36-hour ceasefire, Russia claims to kill 600 soldiers

Russia on January 8 claimed to have killed 600 Ukrainian soldiers in a rocket attack targeting temporary barracks in Kramatorsk city.

The Russian defense ministry said the missile strikes were in retaliation for last week's attack by Ukraine.

Russian defense ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the missile strikes were retaliation for Ukraine's deadly attack in Makiivka.

“Over the past day, Russian intelligence means detected and reliably confirmed through various independent channels some temporary bases of Ukrainian servicemen in Kramatorsk," he said.

"As a result of a massive rocket strike on these temporary bases of Ukrainian units, more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen were killed.”

However, a Ukrainian army spokesperson termed the Russian claim 'another piece of propaganda' as reported by BBC.
