Thousands gathered at the funeral for Mehrshad Shahidi, a young celebrity chef allegedly beaten to death by Iranian forces during anti-hijab protests on October 25.
The 20-year-old, also called Iran's Jamie Oliver, was killed a day before his 20th birthday, The Hindustan Times reported, quoting the Telegraph.
Mehrshad was arrested by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard forces on October 25 and beaten to death at a detention centre.
The chef was reportedly hit by a baton several times on the head leading to his death.
Quoting a relative of Mehrshad, the HT report said that his family was pushed by the regime to say to the public that Mehrshad Shahidi died of a heart attack.
Over 250 people have been killed by security forces in Iran in the anti-government demonstrations triggered by the custodial death of Mahsa Amini by the country's controversial morality police.
