A high-powered group of more than 160 world leaders, politicians and diplomats extended their support to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, demanding he be released from a UK prison and not be extradited to the US. An open letter addressed to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other government ministers, provides legal arguments about why Assange should not be extradited, including claims he would not receive a fair trial and ‘be exposed to torture and other inhuman treatment or punishment.’ Assange's lawyer, Jennifer Robinson has noted that this move demonstrates the growing opposition around the world to US efforts to extradite and prosecute Assange.
