Women in Tripura's Lankamura decorated their courtyards with stunning alpanas for the Poush Sankranti festival. Makar Sankranti is called Poush Sankranti in Assam, West Bengal and other parts of eastern India and is a celebration of a bountiful harvest. The alpanas are made with paste of rice flour and mango leaves are hung to welcome Goddess Lakshmi.
