The Winter Session of Parliament is likely to commence from November 29 and continue till December 23 according to ANI. Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has already finalised the proposal in this regard.

The Winter session assumes significance as it will be held just months before the assembly elections in five states, including politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh, which is seen as a semi-final for the 2024 general elections. Modi government is looking to pass many important bills during the session.

The winter session of Parliament was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the monsoon session was marked by protests by the Opposition over the Pegasus spyware issue and the farm laws.

In the Winter session, those entering the complex and the main Parliament building will have to wear masks all the time and may have to undergo Covid test. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will sit simultaneously, the members will follow social distancing norms.

The last Parliament session was curtailed two days ahead of its schedule over opposition protests.
