WhatsApp has published its first edition of the India Monthly Report mandated by the new IT rules and confirmed what actions it took to prevent harmful behaviour on the messaging platform.
In its monthly compliance report the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform said more than 20 lakh WhatsApp accounts were banned between May 15 and June 15 in India to prevent online abuse and keep users safe.

More than 95 per cent of such accounts which were banned had made “unauthorized use of automated or bulk messaging”.
In its report WhatsApp said it ‘consistently invests in technology, people and processes to keep users safe and secure and that its focus is preventing accounts from sending harmful or unwanted messages at scale.
