WhatsApp on Friday told the Delhi High Court it was voluntarily pausing rollout of its controversial new privacy policy. Appearing on behalf of WhatsApp and Facebook, senior advocate Harish Salve said the new privacy policy is on hold until the Personal Data Protection Bill comes into force.
The court was hearing a plea by the instant messaging platform and its owners, Facebook, challenging a Competition Commission of India inquiry into the contentious policy. Last month, the CCI had issued notices asking for information about the policy.
Delhi High Court allowed no interim protection to WhatsApp, Facebook from CCI Probe and scheduled the next hearing on July 30
The High Court had earlier dismissed their pleas against the CCI inquiry, observing that policy had already been challenged in the Supreme Court.
