The Venue

Kartavyapath earlier known as Rajpath has been the permanent venue for the Republic Day parade since 1955, back when it was still known as Kingsway.

The Chief Guest

Every year, the President, Prime Minister, or otherwise monarch of a particular nation is invited as a Chief Guest to the Republic Day Parade.


Rehearsals for the annual Republic Day parade begin the year prior, in July.


The Western Airforce Command is responsible for the "flypast", which involves 41 jets flying in unison to create a trail with the Indian flag colours.

Marching Groups

The annual Republic Day parade involves various marching groups. These groups cover a distance of 12 km during rehearsals, but only 9 km at the event.

Gun Salute

The gun salute at the parade is fired to the timing of the Indian national anthem every year, and is fired using cannons made in 1941.
