On a visit to review the frightful flood situation, Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra saw the plight up too close. A tree fell on his boat after which he got stuck along with those waiting to be rescued in Datia district's Kotra village. The BJP leader was airlifted along with the villagers by a rescue team.

The flood situation is grim in the state. More than 1,200 villages have been affected in the northern region. 5,950 people have been shifted to safer places, while 1,950 people are still stranded in flood-hit areas, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan apprised on Wednesday.

Some villages in the Sheopur district have been completely submerged. 2 bridges in Datia collapsed due to flooding.

Nearly 3,000 people have been shifted to relief camps in Gwalior, where 46 villages are affected.

Four columns of the Army, Border Security Force and National Disaster Response Force teams and 70 teams of the State Disaster Response Force have been deployed for rescue operations and more NDRF teams are on their way.
