Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant has now clarified his controversial remarks on the gangrape of two minor girls where he seemed to blame the victims and their parents.
Sawant triggered outrage when he tried to pin the blame on the parents asking why were the girls out on beach so late. The CM had added that it was the parents' duty to ensure the safety of their children, and that the girls should not have been allowed to leave home at night, particularly as they are minors.
The chief minister on Friday clarified that his remarks were taken out of context. "Both as head of a responsible Govt & as a father of a 14-yr-old daughter, I was deeply pained & disturbed," Sawant stated. He added that at no point, he tried to deny the right to security provided by our law to the citizens.
