UN chief says must not 'abandon' Afghanis, Refugee Agency says talks with Taliban relatively positive

The head of the UN Refugee Agency on Monday said his agency's recent interaction with the Taliban has been "relatively positive" and that humanitarian aid teams will stay in the country after the Kabul government was toppled to help people on the ground.

Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UNHCR wants to stay out of politics but acknowledged that discussions with the Taliban "may at times be difficult."

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on the sitiuation in Afghanistan on Monday in New York.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the members of the UN's highest body not to "abandon" Afghanistan.
