Britain on Tuesday reported zero coronavirus-related deaths for the first time since July last year. Tuesday's zero daily deaths came after the government reported just one Covid death across the UK on Monday.
The last time that no Covid deaths were recorded throughout the United Kingdom was on July 30.
The scientists and experts have continued to urge caution over a complete easing of lockdown restrictions amid a spike in Covid infections.
Professor Ravi Gupta, an Indian-origin scientist from Cambridge University, said although new cases were "relatively low" the B.1.617 variant of the Covid-19 had fuelled "exponential growth", the BBC reported.. He advised a few weeks’ delay to the June 21 date to reopen the country to allow the vaccination programme to catch up with the highly transmissible variant of Covid-19. The country has seen over 3,000 daily infections for a week, which has led the scientists to warn that the UK may be in the early stages of the third wave.
