The highly infectious Indian variant of Covid-19 has infected over 2,300 people in 86 districts of the UK, the officials have said. The UK govt has urged the public to stay cautious when meeting friends indoors, news agency Bloomberg has reported.

Authorities have identified 2,323 cases of the variant as of Monday, with cases doubling in the past week in Bolton and Blackburn in northwestern England, Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the House of Commons on Monday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has already warned that the final stage of lifting restrictions, due on June 21, may be delayed amid rising concerns over the new variant.
