The UK government has proposed a complete ban on online junk food advertising – the toughest digital marketing restrictions in the world – in an effort to tackle the growing obesity crisis.
Obesity is believed to be one of Britain’s biggest long-term public health problems with almost two-thirds of adults in England overweight. The obesity crackdown has become more urgent due to the pandemic.
The new rules, if implemented, will ban online advertising for foods high in fat, sugar and salt.
