A considerably large contingent of 127 participants from 18 sports made history for India, as the country finished 48th at Tokyo 2020, its highest ranking at Olympics in over four decades.
This year's performance was remarkably better than that at Rio, where the Indian contingent was placed 67th with just 2 Olympic medals.
India won 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals at Tokyo 2020 that wrapped up on Sunday. This is India's highest-ever medal count at Olympics.

Among those who brought cheer to the nation is Neeraj Chopra who bagged India's first Gold in athletics, Mirabai Chanu who won the silver medal on the first day itself, Ravi Kumar Dahiya also won silver, and PV Sindhu, Indian Men's Hockey Team and Lovlina Borgohain grabbed the bronze medal for India at Tokyo 2020.
