Among India’s major medal prospects to secure the Olympic Gold is Manu Bhaker. The 19-year-old who is set to represent India in 10m Air Pistol, 25m sports pistol and 10 m Air pistol mixed team at Tokyo, will only be the 2nd Indian to participate in 3 events at Olympics after Gagan Narang.
With her sheer grit, the Indian shooting star has risen through the ranks in the last 3 years. She first rose to prominence in her teenage days, when she, at the age of 16, became the youngest Indian to win a Gold medal at the World Cup in 2018.
At the age of 19, Bhaker has already won 9 World Cup gold medals. She also excelled at the 2018 Commonwealth Games where she claimed the gold and in the same year, Bhaker delivered a record-shattering qualifying score of 593 in 25 m pistol in the Asian Games.
Bhaker, who is ranked 2nd worldwide, is touted to bring home a gold in the 10m air pistol and mixed team events. If that happens, she will become the first to win an Olympic gold from India since Abhinav Bindra.
