Gujarat's billionaire diamond merchant Savji Dholakia has announced that he will give ₹11 lakh for houses or cars to all members of the Indian women hockey team if they bring a medal home.

Dholakia said it was an attempt at boosting the morale of the players. In a tweet, he wrote, our girls are scripting history with every move at Tokyo 2020 and we’re into the semi-finals of the Olympics for the 1st time beating Australia.

India had sealed its spot in the semi-final after beating Australia by 1-0. However, it lost in its maiden Olympic semi-final match against Argentina on Wednesday. The Indian women's hockey team will face Britain in the bronze medal game on Friday.
