The Election Commission of India has taken note of crowds gathering to celebrate their party’s victory in the assembly elections and has directed chief secretaries to file FIRs in each such case. EC asked States and UTs to "prohibit victory celebrations urgently" and also directed that responsible officials must be suspended immediately.

In West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee led TMC government is seen heading towards victory in the assembly polls while in Tamil Nadu. Stalin’s DMK is poised to win. Supporters of TMC in Bengal and DMK in Tamil Nadu gathered on the streets to celebrate flouting the Election Commission guidelines.

Party workers were seen breaking into a celebratory dance, bursting crackers and feeding sweets to each other in complete disregard of the poll body’s instructions. No social distancing norms were followed and people were also seen without masks even as the Covoid-19 cases see a massive surge.
