8 million tonnes of flower waste ends up across rivers in India annually.
One Kanpur-based organisation is now transforming this flower waste into beautiful incense sticks, while taking measures to clean the Ganges. They are also providing jobs to over 100 local women in Kanpur.
While flower waste may not seem like a major issue, these flowers contain harmful pesticides that could harm the ecosystem.
The organisation collects these flowers, removes chemicals that may be present and then crushes them to pulp. This flower pulp is then converted into incense sticks. They also make coloured powder most often used during Holi.
What's interesting is that the packaging comes with basil seeds that start sprouting when discarded.
