The Awkward Talk: Normalising talking about drugs with older kids

For people with older children, it can seem a little too late to start talking about drug use. But it is never too late.

You can use recent headlines about drug use as an opportunity to begin a conversation about substance use, explains Shamin Mehrotra, Mental Health Therapist and Co-founder, Narrative Practices India.

Just be mindful that you don't force the conversation and give your child the chance to gather their thoughts. It is not feasible to start having sit-down discussions all of a sudden just because you found out something. But you can always approach the topic by saying that you would like to talk about this and give them the time and space to process it.
