Thane civic official loses fingers in knife attack by angry hawker during anti-encroachment drive

Thane Assistant Municipal Commissioner Kalpita Pimple was attacked by a vegetable vendor Amarjit Yadav during an anti-encroachment drive on Monday in the Kasarvadavali locality.

Pimple lost two fingers during the attack, and Somnath Maruti Palve, her security guard, lost one finger. Both of them were rushed to the Jupiter Hospital in Thane.

According to officials, doctors at Jupiter Hospital were carrying out procedures to stitch the chopped off fingers back on Pimple and Palve’s hand.

Accused Yadav was arrested on the spot and further probe into the case is underway, a Kasarvadavli police station official said.
