Tennis icon Roger Federer reached another milestone on Sunday but this time it's off the court, as he turned 40.

With 20 Grand Slam titles, an astonishing 103 career titles, a total of 310 weeks as world number one and more than US $130 million in prize money, the Swiss master could be forgiven for wanting to hang up his racquet for good.

But despite signs of slowing down this year, Federer has the US Open very much in his sights at the end of August.

Much to the delight of his fans who have flooded social media with messages of love and support on his birthday, Federer appears determined to defy time in his pursuit of tennis immortality.
