In a media interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the company's intentions to enter the augmented reality hardware market.

In the interview, Cook said that AR should put "humanity at the centre of it" in order to succeed.

Cook has often publicly expressed his interest in AR. While Cook did not reveal much in this interview, Apple has long been rumoured to be working on a pair of AR glasses.

He asserted that Apple is already providing users with a variety of augmented reality experiences as the App Store has almost 14,000 apps which are created using the company's AR Kit.

He had also discussed the expansion of Apple's AR apps earlier this year.

Despite this, Cook believes that the evolution of AR is still in its early stages. He believes that the technology required for a device to be put on a person’s face is quite challenging to develop.

So, it may still be a while before Apple releases a full-fledged device that can support augmented reality experiences without needing an iPhone.
