Wireless audio products rarely make battery replacement a selling point. Sennheiser is doing exactly that with its new Momentum 5 Wireless headphones and Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds, which have now launched in India.
The over-ear headphones cost ₹39,990, while the earbuds are priced at ₹29,990. Pre-orders opened on September 24, ahead of general sales on October 1.
Sennheiser is promising a substantial step up in noise cancellation. Its new eight-microphone system is claimed to cut midrange sounds, such as nearby conversations, up to three times more effectively than the Momentum 4. Even with ANC running, the headphones are rated to last up to 57 hours.
Sound comes from 42mm drivers that draw inspiration from Sennheiser’s HD 600 range. There is support for Hi-Res Audio, Snapdragon Sound and aptX Lossless, while Dolby Atmos with head tracking adds a spatial audio option.
The 700mAh battery and ear pads are replaceable by the user. Sennheiser also supplies USB-C and 3.5mm cables for wired listening. Black and Denim are the initial colour options; White, Bronze and Lavender are set to follow.
The earbuds take a similar approach to longevity. Owners can replace the batteries in both the earbuds and the charging case, an unusual feature for this category.
Each earbud houses a 7mm TrueResponse driver. Bluetooth 6.0, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless are supported, with playback of up to 24-bit/96kHz audio. Dolby Atmos with head tracking is available here too.
Sennheiser has included adaptive hybrid ANC and a mode that automatically tackles wind noise. For voice calls, the earbuds use four microphones, a voice accelerometer and AI-based speech processing. Battery life is rated at up to 12 hours from the earbuds and 40 hours in total with the case. They carry an IP54 rating and come in Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender.
Both models can be pre-ordered through Sennheiser’s website, online marketplaces and participating stores. The pre-order offer includes a BTD 600 Bluetooth USB dongle, valued at ₹5,990, with further benefits varying by retailer. The Momentum 5 Wireless and Momentum True Wireless 5 go on sale in India on October 1.
